Common questions from government departments
Can you work with limited or missing gauge data?
Yes, and it is the normal case rather than the exception. Where gauge records are short or absent we calibrate against indirect evidence — satellite-derived inundation extents, historic flood marks, documented event reports — and validate against an independent event before relying on the result. The study states explicitly which parameters were constrained by data and which were inferred.
Do you provide the underlying model files, or just a report?
Both, if that is what the scope calls for. Handing over the model files and input data means your department can re-run scenarios later without re-procuring the whole study, which is usually far better value than a report alone. We can also train your staff to operate the model.
How do you handle uncertainty in the results?
Explicitly. A single design flood number with no stated confidence range invites false precision, and it is exactly the thing that fails under later scrutiny. We report the range, the assumptions driving it, and which additional data would most narrow it.
